Job Summary

Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group is currently accepting applications from qualified Nurse Practitioners (AGACNP) or Physician Assistants for an exciting Inpatient Gastroenterology opportunity in Sarasota, Florida.

 

We are located in the highly desirable area of Sarasota, FL, which is on the West Coast of Florida and close to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country – Siesta Key, Lido Key and Longboat Key.

The Gastroenterology practice was developed in 2020 and has expanded to 14 Board-Certified Gastroenterologists and 17 Advanced Practice Providers along with a dedicated team of clinical and administrative staff at each location.

 

The group currently has two practice locations in Sarasota and Venice, and the Sarasota location includes a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center and an outpatient clinic. The Venice office is located in the Medical Office Building on the campus of SMH-Venice hospital, and we are opening a $12 million Endoscopy and Digestive Health Outpatient Center in 2028.

 

Opportunity Highlights:

 

  • Full-time, inpatient hospitalist role at SMH- Sarasota only.
  • Four (10) hour shifts a week, to include weekends and holidays.
  • No nights and no call responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of a GI Hospitalist, performs patient assessments and manages GI-related conditions.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests and imaging.
  • Monitors treatment progress and makes appropriate physician or specialist referrals as needed.
  • Daily patient volume, including consults, averages approximately 60 patients.
  • Three APPs scheduled per shift
  • EMR system: EPIC

 

Requirements:

  • Inpatient APP experience is preferred; however, all qualified applicants will be considered.
  • Graduate from accredited APRN or PA program
  • Certification in professional specialty
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Florida
  • BLS

The Physician Assistant (PA) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The PA II typically works in a specialized acute care setting managing patient care, rounding on inpatients, and performing complex diagnostics, which can include critical care, ortho, OB/GYN, Oncology, and Pediatrics. A PA is a graduate with a master's degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).

Required Qualifications

- Require bachelor degree from accredited physician assistant training program.
- Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

- Prefer ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and other allied health personnel in the hospital and/or office setting.

- Prefer demonstrated skills in documentation in medical records to substantiate accurate billing.
- Prefer effective interaction skills to ensure the successful care of patients in the clinical setting.
- Prefer effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
- Prefer knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations.
- Prefer knowledge of state, federal and local health care agencies and programs.
