Job Summary

Demonstrates advanced expertise in Perinatal Genetics within the Maternal-Fetal Medicine program at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Responsible for providing comprehensive genetic counseling services to individuals, couples, and families during pregnancy or preconception, with an emphasis on identifying, assessing, and communicating risks for genetic and congenital conditions. Serves as a key member of the multidisciplinary maternal-fetal care team, integrating ultrasound, laboratory, and family history findings into individualized counseling and care plans. Manages complex, multi-step prenatal genetic cases—often requiring rapid turnaround and coordination between subspecialties—while supporting patients through high-stakes, time-sensitive decisions in a culturally sensitive, patient-centered manner. Contributes to research, quality improvement, and policy initiatives that advance the field of perinatal genetic counseling.

Required Qualifications

- Require a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling.
- Require Board Certified Medical Genetics or Board eligible.
- Require Genetic Counseling Licensure in the State of Florida.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prefer a minimum one (1) year of experience in perinatal or reproductive genetic counseling within a maternal-fetal medicine or obstetrics setting.
- Prefer demonstrated expertise in counseling patients on prenatal screening and diagnostic testing, congenital anomalies, chromosomal abnormalities, single-gene disorders, teratogen exposures, and other pregnancy-related genetic conditions.
- Prefer proficiency in interpreting ultrasound findings in the context of genetic risk assessment.
- Prefer experience with advanced genetic testing technologies including whole-exome sequencing (WES), whole-genome sequencing (WGS), and interpretation of variants of uncertain significance (VUS).
- Prefer demonstrated ability to manage high patient volumes and complex counseling cases in a busy hospital-based maternal-fetal medicine service.
- Prefer experience providing counseling in a culturally sensitive manner across a range of educational backgrounds.
