Job Summary

First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has an excellent opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider to join a busy and successful CV & Thoracic Surgery group. Sarasota is located approximately 60 minutes south of Tampa. The area is known for the arts, great restaurants, world-class beaches, excellent schools, and a wide variety of activities for all ages.

Position Highlights:

  • Team Structure: The APP will join an inpatient team that is expanding from four to seven APPs. This team is part of a larger practice consisting of six surgeons, seven surgical APPs, and three outpatient APPs.

 

  • Schedule & Work/Life Balance: The position involves 10-hour day shifts only, with no on-call requirements.
    • Shifts rotate through weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
    • APPs work eight shifts per two-week pay period.
    • When fully staffed, a minimum of three medical APPs will be scheduled daily.
    • The practice emphasizes work/life balance.

 

  • Core Responsibilities: The APP is responsible for comprehensive patient assessment, evaluation, care planning, and administration under physician direction within the Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery Department.
    • They collaborate with surgeons during the pre-operative and post-operative phases.
    • Daily tasks include rounding (independently and with surgeons), writing progress notes, managing consults, entering orders, and handling admissions and discharges.

 

  • Clinical Environment: Shifts rotate between the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), Step-down unit, and Outlier coverage, providing variety and opportunities for professional growth and team coverage.

 

  • Procedures: The role offers the opportunity to learn and perform certain bedside procedures, either based on documented prior experience or after completing proctoring requirements.

The Advanced practice provider reflects the mission, vision, and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The APP II typically works in multidisciplinary settings and units managing patient care, and cardiovascular intensive care. Completes surgical consultations, pre and post operative visits, testing and orders. An APP is a graduate with a doctorate, master's degree or certificate from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at an accredited school or college. The APP functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The APP is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine, the Board of Osteopathic Medicine, or the Florida Board of Nursing to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).

Required Qualifications

- Require bachelor's degree from accredited physician assistant training program. - Require successful completion of Annual Orthopedic Education Requirements upon hire and then annually as outlined in the Orthopedic Program(s) Education Plan.
- Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Preferred Qualifications

- Prefer ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Prefer demonstrated clinical competency skills.
- Prefer demonstrated knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to health care practice and current prescription writing skills/DEA licensing.
- Prefer demonstrated skills in documentation in medical records to substantiate accurate billing.
