Job Summary

First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking to employ a Physician Assistant to join an established and busy General Surgery practice. Conveniently located in the Medical Office Building attached to Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Venice, the hired Physician Assistant will join two (2) experienced PA colleagues and assist a group of four (4) general surgeons.

 

Built to serve the growing south Sarasota County area and enhance care across the region, SMH – Venice offers a full slate of medical and surgical care – from cardiology, GI, orthopedics and intensive care to surgery and comprehensive labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum care. Seamlessly integrated with the resources and support of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS), SMH-Venice delivers south county residents more convenient access to the top-ranked medical and surgical treatment that SMHCS is known for.  

Position Highlights:

  • Full time, clinic hours 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
  • Responsibilities in Clinic, OR, and on Hospital Consult.
  • In clinic, partnership with supervising physician seeing post-operative patients.
  • Clinic procedures to include debridement, I&Ds, drain pulls, staple/suture removal and general wound care.
  • On service in the hospital, performing consults for admissions, rounding, and initiating discharge documentation.
  • Weekend hospital coverage required.
  • Vascular experience is preferred but not required.

'The Physician Assistant (PA) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The PA III typically works in a multidisciplinary setting including first assist, procedures (chest tube, line placement, etc), multiple inpatient units managing patient care which includes critical care, trauma, and surgery. A PA is a graduate with a master’s degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).'

Required Qualifications

- Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Require bachelor degree from accredited physician assistant training program.

- Prefer demonstrated written & verbal communication & strong analytical skills.
- Prefer ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and other allied health personnel in the hospital and/or office setting.
- Prefer demonstrated clinical competency skills.
- Prefer demonstrated knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to health care practice and current prescription writing skills/DEA licensing.
- Prefer demonstrated skills in documentation in medical records to substantiate accurate billing.
- Prefer effective interaction skills to ensure the successful care of patients in the clinical setting.
- Prefer effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
- Prefer knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations.
- Prefer knowledge of state, federal and local health care agencies and programs.
