Job Summary

First Physician’s Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking a Certified Physician Assistant or surgically experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner for the Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology department.  Sarasota is located approximately 60 minutes south of Tampa.  The area is known for the arts, great restaurants, world-class beaches, excellent schools, and a wide variety of activities for all ages.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Working with the GI Oncology team, which includes two surgeons and three Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) providing four 10-hour shifts a week at one hospital. 
  • First and second assisting in the operating room.
  • Rounding on inpatients, seeing consults and coordinating care of patients in the outpatient clinic.
  • Weekday/weekend call will be shared equally with other providers (1:5). 

Qualifications:

  • General Surgery, or Surgical Oncology experience is preferred.  
  • Florida licensure as a Physician Assistant & NCCPA certification or AGACNP &  AACN certification. 
  • APPs are required to maintain appropriate DEA prescription privileges/licensure.
  • Clinical and Surgical experience in related field is preferred.
  • BLS required. ACLS certification preferred.

Candidates must be able to work under minimal supervision in the assessment, planning and administration of patient care. Candidate will have responsibility for daytime and some after-hours on-call patient care.

The PA III typically works in a multidisciplinary setting including first assist, procedures (chest tube, line placement, etc), multiple inpatient units managing patient care which includes critical care, trauma, and surgery. A PA is a graduate with a master’s degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).'

Required Qualifications

- Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Require bachelor degree from accredited physician assistant training program.
