First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Adult Gerontologic Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) to join our neurology group providing both inpatient and outpatient care for our Sarasota County patient populations. The neurology service line currently includes 7 APPs and 13 physicians practicing general, vascular neuroendovascular, neurophysiology, and epilepsy.
Sarasota County is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida nestled between Tampa and Ft. Myers. The area is known for the arts, great restaurants, excellent schools, and a wide variety of activities to please all ages.
Position Highlights:
SMH-Sarasota, our flagship, level II trauma, 897 – bed hospital is Sarasota County's only state-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center. SMH-Venice has earned Primary Stroke Center specialty designation, while Sarasota Memorial’s freestanding ER in North Port is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Center. All three facilities follow the same emergency care protocols to diagnose and stabilize patients experiencing stroke emergencies.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Venice opened in 2021, built and designed to serve the growing south Sarasota County area. SMH – Venice offers a full slate of medical and surgical care – from cardiology, GI, orthopedics and intensive care to surgery and comprehensive labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum care. Currently licensed for 178 private patient suites, a 28-bed emergency care center, and 8 surgical suites, construction continues into 2024 to add 34 additional private rooms as well as expansion of the ER to 61 rooms, with additional space created to add 8 more surgical suites. Seamlessly integrated with the resources and support of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, SMH-Venice delivers south county residents more convenient access to the top-ranked medical and surgical treatment that SMHCS is known for.
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The APRN II typically work in a set acute care setting managing patient care which can include critical care, Ortho, OB/GYN, Oncology, and Pediatrics. An APRN is a registered nurse and therefore can perform all duties that are considered routine duties of a registered nurse. In addition, an APRN holds a master’s or doctoral degree. The APRN functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced nursing care to patients within the APRN’s scope of practice.
- Require advanced degree from an accredited school or college of nursing* *Must have had a Medicare number in the State of Florida prior to 1/1/03; if not, must have a Master's Degree in nursing in addition to being a Registered Professional Nurse who is authorized by Florida to practice in accordance with state law.
- Require approved APRN board certification**. **Must be certified as a APRN by a recognized national certifying body having established standards for APRN’s. The following organizations are recognized national certifying bodies for the Nurse Practitioner: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Nurses Credentialing Center; National Certification Corporation for Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties; National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners & Nurses; Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation; Critical Care Certification Corporation; National Commission on Certification; and American Association of Heart Failure Nurses.
- Prefer ability to work independently and collaboratively.
